We’re collecting books for donation to Rx for Reading to fill the Little Libraries in neighborhoods throughout Metro Detroit. Please donate your gently used or new books, appropriate for elementary through high-school aged students. We can also accept monetary donations (Rx for Reading Detroit is able to purchase books at a deep discount). The Little Libraries used by Rx for Reading are constructed by Center client John Mio.
WHAT: Book Drive for Kids
Reading is one the most powerful tools we have for promoting healthy childhood development and long-lasting educational benefits. Research has proven that having access to books in a child's home is one of the most important predictors of their educational attainment.
Rx for Reading is a non-profit literacy initiative sponsored by the University of Detroit Mercy. Their mission is to expand access to high-quality children’s books and support families in reading with their children. Since 2014 they have distributed over 2,000 children’s books a month with the help of their community partners , including low-income health, dental and WIC clinics, homeless shelters, and Head Start programs.
