Live Your Plan: Dan Boyce

We spend our whole lives planning and preparing for retirement. Here at Center for Financial Planning, helping to plan for a comfortable lifestyle while entering this phase of your life and career is one of our main priorities. But what happens when the planning is done and retirement has finally arrived? You actually get to LIVE your plan! It’s no longer figurative language or some fantasy off in the future, it’s here and all your hard work has, hopefully, paid off so you can live the life you’ve envisioned for so many years.

We recently checked in with founding partner and recently retired, Dan Boyce, CFP®, to see how he is living his plan.

If video had been around before the English idiom “a picture is worth a thousand words,” was first uttered, the phrase just might have been “a video is worth a million words.”

A successful financial planning relationship is very personal, and for it to be truly successful it has to not only be personal but also worthy of trust. While education and credentials are important and the written word or professional bios provide a great medium to learn more about our backgrounds, trying to find out if a planner or firm might be a good fit is difficult to ascertain from words alone. Therefore, if we haven’t had the privilege of meeting yet I hope this video allows you to see, feel, and hear why I am passionate about helping folks make good financial decisions – it’s what I love to do.

If you feel that we might be a fit, please feel free to reach out. And if we decide to work together, you can be assured that I will do my best to stand in your shoes and use my roughly 25 years of experience to your benefit.

Timothy Wyman, CFP®, JD is the Managing Partner and Financial Planner at Center for Financial Planning, Inc. and is a contributor to national media and publications such as Forbes and The Wall Street Journal and has appeared on Good Morning America Weekend Edition and WDIV Channel 4. A leader in his profession, Tim served on the National Board of Directors for the 28,000 member Financial Planning Association™ (FPA®), mentored many CFP® practitioners and is a frequent speaker to organizations and businesses on various financial planning topics.

Center Stories: Sandy Adams CFP®

Here at Center for Financial Planning, we like to make personal connections…with each other, with our clients, and with all of the individuals that we come into contact with.  In our work as financial planners, we need to get to know our clients on an individual basis – to get to know their personal situations and goals – in order to design a personal financial plan for them.  I know a lot about my clients on a personal level, but you might not know quite as much about me. Rather than just writing a bio and having you attempt to get to know me in words on paper, I am hoping my bio video will help you connect with me on a more personal level – help you get to know more about me, my work as a planner, and how I work with clients.  Check out my video here:

Leaving a Legacy – “Lessons from Dan”

Contributed by: Sandra Adams, CFP® Sandy Adams

A new year has begun and it feels a bit different at The Center.  Dan Boyce, the last of our founding partners, has now retired and is off to start his life of new adventures. While he will not be physically be with us on a regular basis, he leaves behind a legacy of lessons that will live within all of us for the rest of our lives.

Dan was, without even trying, a mentor to us all. He taught us to be better – personally and professionally.  He taught us to develop the vision that created The Center – something that started as a business, but has turned into much more for our employees and for our clients alike. He taught us to be better people – for ourselves, for our families, for our co-workers, and for our clients. He taught us to believe in ourselves and to be the best that we could possibly be; to never stop growing and to never stop pursuing greatness.  He taught us never-ending gratitude and kindness – he exemplified this with his words AND actions.  He was the ultimate example of honesty and integrity – values The Center is built on.  And last, but not least, Dan led by example in his quest to live his plan – something he is on his way to doing now!

Please check out our video “Lessons from Dan,” below where our staff shares their favorite lesson learned from Dan over the years.  Feel free to share your favorite lessons from Dan with us.  We look forward to hearing from you!

You Can't Predict / You Can Prepare

There’s a fine line between worrying about the future and obsessing. When it comes to your money and volatile markets, that line can blur. So how do you keep calm when the going gets tough on Wall Street? What helps you stay at ease? We believe it is careful preparation. While you can never predict which way the market is going, you always have control. Control over your own decisions. Control over how you react. But most importantly, control over what you do BEFORE the volatility. To that end, our CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS™ here at The Center each offer a personal take on how to prepare. Whether it’s learning to ignore the media hype or understanding your own emotional triggers to investing, our tips have one common thread. Prepare now. Don’t wait. Here’s how:

Contributed by: Center for Financial Planning, Inc. The Center

A couple of weeks ago, Nick Defenthaler, CFP®, hosted a webinar targeting Fiat Chrysler employees and how they could save thousands of dollars by contributing to the after-tax portion of their 401k plan. Although not all 401k retirement plans have these same capabilities, knowing about the possible tax deferred options that could be available for your retirement plan can be helpful for future saving.

In the webinar below, Nick explains the difference between traditional 401ks and Roth 401ks, and also includes insight into other retirement saving vehicles like IRAs. He explains what retirement plan could be best for you and your future, which can depend on your current tax bracket and your predicted future bracket. The webinar is filled with basic information about retirement plans and then delves into the specific plan as it relates to Fiat Chrysler employees. Take 30 minutes to review the information and if you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

For further information, Nick has already shared advice for thinking about Back Door Roth IRA Conversion and what Ford Employees should do regarding this same topic.

Center Team Back from RJ Conference with Ideas for the Future

Though the sun was shining brightly over the pool outside our Las Vegas hotel, our team turned a blind eye each morning and dove into work. Of The Center’s 18 employees, 17 of us made the trip to the Raymond James National Conference for Professional Development. We make it a point every year to get as many hands on deck as possible. Not just for the learning opportunities, but because it’s a great chance for us to do some off-site team building. This year we went with a mission: Find take-aways we could put into action for our clients. In this video, we share just a few:
